About the Event
The second session of the Policy and Advocacy Masterclass hosted by Knowledge for Great Green Wall Action (K4GGWA) and Young Professionals for Agricultural Development (YPARD) shifts gears from understanding to doing.
Having explored the foundations of policy advocacy with evidence and been introduced to the advocacy planning framework, participants now come together to turn ideas into action. This is the most hands-on session of the masterclass: learners work collaboratively in small groups to develop their own draft advocacy plans, test their thinking against peer feedback, and hear directly from a young practitioner who has already navigated the path from evidence to policy.
Session 2 is about building confidence, sharpening your plan, and connecting with a community of people who share your commitment to change. By the end, participants will have a concrete draft they can continue developing — and the network and resources to help them do it.
Note: Participants are expected to have completed the post-Session 1 assignment (beginning to fill in the advocacy template) before attending Session 2.
Before the Session
To get the most out of Session 2, participants are asked to:
- Complete at least one section of the advocacy plan template introduced in Session 1.
- Come prepared to share your draft, your questions, and your challenges with the group.

- Revisit and build on your advocacy plan in a structured group work environment
- Give and receive structured peer feedback on your advocacy plan
- Hear from a young practitioner with experience in policy advocacy and evidence use
- Discover additional tools, resources, and next steps to take your advocacy forward
- Connect with a network of peers working on similar challenges across Africa
- Receive a certificate of completion upon finishing both sessions and assignments

Key Concepts
- From Understanding to Doing: Session 2 is where learning becomes action. Participants apply the framework introduced in Session 1 to their own real-world policy cases, moving from reflection to a concrete draft plan.
- Peer Learning as a Method: The most powerful advocacy insights often come not from experts, but from peers. Structured breakout discussions create space for learners to share experiences, challenge assumptions, and strengthen each other's thinking.
- Advocacy Plans in Practice: A good advocacy plan identifies a clear goal, maps key stakeholders, anticipates power dynamics, and sequences concrete actions. Session 2 helps participants stress-test and refine their plans before taking them forward.
- Youth Voices in Policy: Peer talks from young practitioners working on advocacy in GGW contexts show that change is possible — and model what it looks like from the inside.
- What Comes Next: Participants leave with a draft plan, a peer network, and a set of resources to continue their advocacy journey beyond the masterclass.
